The Tale of Two Stonemasons
Long ago, a village set out to build a great watchtower to protect their valley. Two stonemasons were brought in to evaluate the quarry rock chosen for the foundation.
The first mason ran his hand over the surface of a large block, tapped it with a light hammer, and said, "The rock is smooth, cold, and solid to the touch today. It is ready to lay."
The second mason paused. He didn't just touch the stone—he listened to the deep ring of the strike, studied the hidden grain of the mineral veins, and traced how water would pool against it during winter freezes.
